Hello PodRide Supporter
Apologies that we have not had an update out for some time. We have been stalled on two items that have been giving us some frustration.
One is finding a suitable designer to work with Mikael on the digitization and design optimization. All the best independent bike designers that we have spoken to are pre-booked on projects for the next 9-12 months. We believe we will have this situation rectified shortly.
The other frustration has been in changing software for the design optimization. We needed to change to a specific software package to collaborate more easily with manufacturers. The software is super expensive. Rather than pay out the 16-24 thousand US dollars that it would cost to buy the licenses, we joined the “Startup programme” offered by the software vendor, that means we only need to pay a few hundred dollars. Unfortunately there is no visibility into the time frame of the approval of such licences, and our emails requesting updates are replied to with robotic emails that provide no answers. We are working with a local distributor now to speed up the process & are expecting some good news shortly.
On the positive side, whilst not as fast as we would hope, things are still moving forward. Mikael has redesigned the lower frame and made it simpler for manufacture. It still needs more work, but the new design will be easier and cheaper to produce than the original design.
PodRide is going places:
We have had a custom packing crate made to protect the PodRide prototype in shipping, and PodRide is off to see the world. First stop is Spain where PodRide & Mikael will be appearing in the Science section of a TV show called “El Hormiguero” which according to Google means “The Anthill”. That show goes live to air in Spain today (Monday 26th September), then PodRide will fly to Taiwan.
Mikael is also heading to Taiwan to join me, and will be here for many months to work directly with designers & manufacturers in Taiwan.
